Mental Health Youth

Adolescence is a time of important change and development. It is also the time when mental health problems can first emerge.

During high school years, mental health problems are among the leading causes of falling grades, problems with friends, and relationships, substance use or abuse and they can have lifelong impact.

That’s where Mental Health First Aid training can help.

With a focus on improved mental health literacy and early intervention, Youth MHFA is for adults who work, live or care for adolescents such as teachers, school support staff, parents, sports coaches, community group leaders and youth workers.

Delivery options;

2-day training (7 hours a day)

4-day training (3.5 hours a day, can be spread over weeks if needed)

There is also a blended online option available.

Youth Mental Health First Aid is an education course that teaches adults about adolescent development and the signs and symptoms of common and disabling mental health problems in young people, including crisis situations.

Learn how to assist adolescent who are developing a mental health problem, experiencing worsening of a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis.

-Suicidal Thoughts and Behaviors

-Substance Use

Participants will receive a 3-year accreditation as a Mental Health First Aider. 

Tailored program, can run from 30mins - 3 hours

Youth Mental Health is an introduction course to give participants the basic understanding of youth mental illness. Teaching them to notice signs and symptoms within others and the process of encouraging support and receiving professional help. Course content can be customised relevant to your school, daycare or sporting club.

Tailored program, can run from 30mins - 3 hours

Youth Wellness promotes and teaches participants how to protect their mental health during their adolescence years. It provides a guide to maintain health and wellbeing, practical ways to deal with mood fluctuations, anxiety, self-esteem, and the importance of self-care and how to notice early signs and symptoms of mental illness. Course content can be tailored to cover any concerns or relevant topics.

Youth Mental Health Facts

In Australia, suicide is the leading cause of death for people aged 5-17 years old.

About three-quarters of common mental health problems emerge before the age of 25 years old.

  • The average age of the first incident of self-harm is 13.
  • Approximately 20% of adolescents have a diagnosable mental health disorder.
  • Many mental health disorders first present during adolescence.
  • Between 20% and 30% of adolescents have one major depressive episode before they reach adulthood.
